Miguel Gutiérrez: Who Man United must outfox to land Bayer Leverkusen’s assist king | OneFootball

Manchester United cannot wait for the transfer window to open before signing a left-back.

Ideally, they would have made that move last summer, when it was already obvious that Luke Shaw needed a reliable alternative.

This international break has shown why failing to do so was a significant blunder.

Over the last few days, Shaw’s alternatives at left-back, Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui, have both picked up injuries while on international duty.

Those setbacks provide Harry Amass with a chance to step up. Even if he does, though, this team still needs to sign a top left-back who can eventually replace Shaw.

As for who the Red Devils could turn to, they have been linked with Adrien Truffert, Tyrick Mitchell, and Alejandro Balde.

Miguel Gutiérrez on Man United’s list of targets

Now Fussball reports that Bayer Leverkusen’s assist king, Miguel Gutiérrez, is also on United’s radar.

The Spaniard has made a bright start to life at Bayer after joining from Napoli. In four games, he has scored once and provided an impressive three assists, and his performances have grabbed headlines.

The German outlet reveals: “Manchester United also have the Spaniard on their list.

“The Red Devils are looking for attacking quality at left-back and are monitoring Gutiérrez after his quick settling-in period at Leverkusen.”

A tricky battle

United are not alone in their pursuit, however. As Fussball notes:

“Real Madrid, Manchester United, AC Milan and Juventus Turin are monitoring the 25-year-old’s development.”

With a left-back a big priority for INEOS, you would expect them to go all out for the player they feel best suits their project. If that is Gutiérrez, United could launch a serious challenge for his services.

Still, he has only just joined Bayer and attracts plenty of interest elsewhere, so this would be a tricky transfer for the 20-time English champions to pursue.

Overall credibility: 5/10 Why?

✅ Gutiérrez’s blistering form must have caught the attention of Europe’s top sides

⚠️ Any potential transfer is still at the interest stage, with Bayer Leverkusen yet to be approached

⚠️ Gutiérrez is tied to Bayer Leverkusen on a long-term deal

We believe Gutiérrez’s performances have certainly caught the eye of many top teams. However, having only joined Bayer Leverkusen last summer, it is unlikely he will leave any time soon.
