Miguelito to miss Santos’ Copa Sudamericana opener after muscle fatigue | OneFootball

Santos will be without midfielder Miguelito for their Copa Sudamericana group-stage opener after a muscle issue on Bolivia duty. He did not travel to Ecuador and will miss Wednesday’s meeting with Deportivo Cuenca at the Alejandro Serrano Aguilar stadium, 7pm.

According to Diario Do Peixe, he was diagnosed with bilateral muscle fatigue in the back of both thighs. The club has placed him on a recovery programme and he is expected to return to training on Tuesday at CT Rei Pelé.

Miguelito had been on an intense run of matches for Bolivia and was among the standouts in the intercontinental play-off. In the semi-final against Suriname he scored from the spot in a 2-1 win that sent Bolivia to the final.

He started the final against Iraq, but a 2-1 defeat ended hopes of a first World Cup appearance in 32 years.

For Santos, he has 12 appearances this season with two assists and is still seeking his first goal for the club.
