Mikel Arteta wants any new signings to join Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Asia as quickly as possible, with the club now closing in on a move for Viktor Gyokeres.
Arsenal have agreed a deal with Sporting for Gyokeres worth €63.5million (£55m) up front, with a further €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons.
The striker has been given permission by Sporting to undergo a medical with Arsenal, which will take place in London.
Gyokeres could then join up with Arsenal, who are currently in Singapore for their pre-season tour of Asia.
The club will be in Hong Kong next week for a game with North London rivals Tottenham on Thursday.
Arteta would not be drawn on the progress of a move for Gyokeres, but he did reveal he wants any new signings to link up with the squad as soon as possible.
“Yes, for sure,” Arteta said “Obviously, once we have finalised everything with a player we want to integrate him with the team as quickly as possible.
“With Noni [Madueke] it was impossible because he needed some time. I think he’s going to take a shorter vacation than what he deserves, because he wants to joins us straightaway, as soon as we’re back.
“But the rest, yeah, immediately I think it is better so they can start to join the team, get to know each other, and get the ideas that we want to put in their minds.”
Gyokeres has reportedly already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Arsenal, his preferred destination this summer.
Arsenal and Sporting have been in talks for weeks over a fee for the 27-year-old, who scored 54 goals in all competitions last season.
Gyokeres has not been in pre-season training while negotiations have continued and he has instead been waiting for the green light to complete his move to Arsenal.
The striker now has that permission and he will hope a deal is concluded swiftly, even if Arteta was tight-lipped on the matter.
“Unfortunately you know that I cannot talk about a player who is not ours yet,” Arteta said. “So, whatever happens in the next few hours, I’m sure the club will make a statement about it.”
