According to as.com, Almería have sealed a deal for Mikel Vesga, the Athletic Club midfielder, who has chosen the Andalusian club despite rival offers.
The 33-year-old was not in Athletic's plans. RCD Mallorca and Al-Faisaly Football Club showed interest, yet he prioritised Almería, where he will reunite with Jon Morcillo, a fellow Athletic graduate from the same agency.
A late move from the Saudi side threatened to alter plans, but talks resumed between Thursday and Friday and ended in a definitive agreement. Vesga will sign until June 2028 on €1.4 million gross per season. He will terminate his Athletic contract and join as a free agent, with an official announcement due in the coming hours.
He is already at the Marbella Football Center, base for Almería's eight-day camp, and is available to Xavier García Pimienta. Competition at the base of midfield includes Iddrisu Baba, Stefan Dzodic, Dion Lopy, Gui Guedes and André Horta. Nico Melamed and Quim Junyent can also operate further ahead, so departures are anticipated.
There is interest in Horta from Al-Khaleej, Al-Ula and a Mexican club. Lopy and Dzodic are drawing interest. Baba and Guedes could either stay in secondary roles or leave this summer.
Vesga is expected to take a leading positional role. After more than a decade with Athletic, including two loans at Real Sporting and Leganés, he has played 275 senior games for the Bilbao side. A Deportivo Alavés academy graduate, he now begins his first spell in the south aiming for the first top-flight promotion of his career.
