Milan are acquiring a new attacker following the departure of Rafael Leao, but, unlike in previous instances, they were cautious with their spending and opted for Omari Hutchinson from Nottingham Forest, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

He’s coming in on a €3.5M season-long loan with a €50M option to buy. The Rossoneri will evaluate him for a year before deciding whether to splurge to keep. They have already spent big for Gonçalo Ramos, Mario Gila, and Diego Moreira.

Hutchison is left-footed and will be an extra option in the hole, competing primarily with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Adrien Rabiot. Instead, Christian Pulisic, Alphadjo Cissè, and Alexis Saelemaekers will split time in the other spot behind the striker.

The newcomer showed great promise at Ipswich Town in the Championship in 2023/2024, tallying 10 goals and 6 assists. He wasn’t quite as productive in the top flight, scoring 4 times and dishing out 9 helpers in 63 appearances. The Tricky Trees paid €43M to acquire him a year ago.

The Rossoneri are likely done adding. They believe in their young defenders Sankhoun Diawara and Valeri Vladimirov. Filippo Terracciano and Davide Bartesaghi can also man those roles.

While it was fair to expect a flashier signing to replace Leao, in reality, they have enough depth and quality already and quite a few options to toy with if Pulisic gets healthy and back on track and Cissé keeps growing. The plan to have a midfielder in the other spot is a little sketchy, but they have a purer and more inventive attacker at their disposal now. Still, he’ll have to fare really well to stay permanently.
