Colombo played an exemplary role throughout last season for the Salentini as the number nine registered 33 appearances, scoring five and assisting two. His goal against Monza from the penalty spot turned out to be decisive as Lecce attained survival on the arithmetic difference.

Marco Baroni’s side are set to earn a figure of around €1.7 million from Milan as they exercised the buyout clause but the 21-year-old’s parent club counter-exempted.

Manager Stefano Pioli is hoping to send Marco Nasti to Lecce on a similar deal to Colombo from last year.

The decision to retain the young striker sends a message about how much Milan invest and trust their talent to steer their team in the future.
