Milan have begun shaping their summer plans, with a new centre-back near the top of the list. According to Football Italia, Mario Gila has emerged as a leading target and talks are progressing over a deal worth around €20m.

The Spaniard has stood out in Serie A for his composure on the ball and comfort in a high defensive line, qualities that match the Rossoneri’s desired profile for next season.

CEO Giorgio Furlani is understood to have opened dialogue with Lazio president Claudio Lotito as Milan look to act early to head off rivals.

Nothing is expected to be finalised before the end of the current campaign, with discussions likely to continue in the coming months with a view to completing any transfer in the summer window.

Lazio recognise the growing attention and would seek a significant fee for a player who has become an important part of their defensive rotation.

Real Madrid are entitled to 50% of any future transfer fee, so half of any agreed sum would go back to the club where Gila developed. That could influence Lazio’s approach as they look to maximise their return.

For Milan, the message is clear, defensive reinforcements are coming and Gila remains firmly on the shortlist.
