Inter and Milan went to great lengths to acquire the land.

Furthermore, they’ve already hired the famous British architect Norman Foster to oversee construction.

However, a project of this magnitude will take time, with the new stadium expected to open in 2031.

Despite San Siro’s legendary status in European football, there’s no denying that the current venue no longer meets modern stadium standards.

Moreover, UEFA has already informed the Italian Football Federation that San Siro doesn’t meet the requirements to host Euro 2032.

Therefore, the Serie A giants are keen to press ahead with the project and usher in a new era for football in Milan.

“It’s not a stadium suited to modern times,” Sala admitted. “That’s the reality.

“But it was rightly a moment of glory for a venue that has given so much to Milan,” he continued.

“So no, I don’t believe there’s any possibility of reconsidering anything.”

Milan and Inter have agreed to pay a fortune to purchase the land.

Indeed, the total price agreed for the acquisition of the San Siro site amounted to €197.08 million.

However, the local rivals will pay this figure in several instalments.

It’s also worth noting that the clubs paid €91.96 million before signing the papers.

Additionally, the overall cost of the project is reportedly likely to reach a staggering €1.2 billion.

It will cover the purchase of the current site, the demolition of most of the ground, and the redevelopment of the stadium.

Nevertheless, it’s a small price to pay for a state-of-the-art stadium that will secure the club’s place among Europe’s elite.
