Sparta Rotterdam beat Groningen 2-0 at Het Kasteel on Saturday to rise from sixth to fifth in the Eredivisie, with the visitors dropping from seventh to eighth.
A VAR review ruled out a Thom van Bergen strike for Groningen in the 40th minute.
Shunsuke Mito rifled into the bottom right from outside the box (55.), set up by Ayoni Santos on the break.
Joel Drommel then kept the hosts in control, tipping Younes Taha's goalbound effort away as Groningen searched for a response.
Substitute Mike Kleijn made an instant impact late on, teeing up Mito to finish high into the net (90.) and seal the points.
Sparta Rotterdam registered five shots on target from eight attempts. Groningen had 54% possession but produced only two efforts on target from eight.
Next, Sparta Rotterdam visit Fortuna Sittard. Groningen host PSV.
