Mixto’s Gustavo Xuxa in intensive care after training arrhythmia | OneFootball

Mixto midfielder Gustavo Xuxa, 33, is in intensive care in Cuiabá after suffering an arrhythmia during a light transition session at Dutrinha on Friday. His condition was stabilised with medical care and resuscitation.

According to Globo.com, he was easing back from a muscle injury when he collapsed. He developed ventricular tachycardia, the arrhythmia was reversed by medics, and he was intubated before transfer to intensive care.

The intubation was precautionary. He remains under observation, with expectation of improvement at the start of next week.

He has been diagnosed with Takotsubo syndrome, commonly called broken heart syndrome, affecting the apex of the heart.

Ultrasound and a catheterisation on Saturday morning returned normal results, ruling out a heart attack. No prior heart disease had been detected in earlier tests.

The principal manifestation was the arrhythmia, and there was not necessarily shortness of breath beforehand. The condition is temporary and can be associated with physical or emotional stress.

Cardiac recovery is expected to take four to eight weeks, with an estimated 80% chance of recovery. Xuxa joined Mixto in April for the Serie D, playing nine games with one goal and two assists after spells at Juventude, Grêmio, Londrina, São José-RS, Botafogo-SP, Paraná and Brasiliense.

Mixto have no official fixtures for the rest of 2026 after opting out of the Copa FMF, and will return to competition in 2027.
