Mohamed Salah was given a rapturous reception in Trabzon on Wednesday night as thousands of Trabzonspor fans welcomed the former Liverpool forward ahead of signing his contract on Thursday.

After a midday ovation in Istanbul, he arrived in Trabzon around 20:00 alongside club president Ertugrul Dogan. According to L'Équipe, the club’s messaging shifted during the day, moving from saying talks were ongoing to describing him as their new recruit.

Crowds massed at the airport with flares, impromptu fireworks, blaring horns and relentless chants, plus a banner reading “Salah'm aleykoum”. The club shared striking images and hailed him as the king of Egypt.

Wearing a Trabzonspor shirt bearing number 10, the 34-year-old looked momentarily stunned before geeing up the supporters. He said he was delighted, keen to start training and hopeful of achieving big things in the league and in Europe, noting he always aims to win wherever he goes.

The Egypt great, capped 119 times with 66 goals, completed his medical on Wednesday afternoon. He is due to sign his contract at Papara Park on Thursday at 19:30 local time, 18:30 in France, after nine years at Liverpool.
