Mohamed Salah to miss Egypt’s South Sudan qualifier due to synthetic pitch

Mohamed Salah will not travel with Egypt for their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in South Sudan, the Egyptian Football Association said on Saturday, citing the synthetic pitch.

Egypt opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Angola in Cairo on Friday.

Salah, 34, recently joined Trabzonspor from Liverpool, started that game but was replaced on the hour by head coach Hossam Hassan.

It had been agreed before the Angola match that he would not feature against South Sudan, a decision taken by the national team staff.

The approach was presented as protecting the player. The qualifier in Juba is scheduled for Tuesday at 15:00.
