AS Monaco were in the driving seat against Pafos on Wednesday night, only to let their lead slip in the dying stages.

Having taken the lead through Takumi Minamino, they were pegged back by the Cypriot side thanks to a David Luiz header. Monaco then retook the lead through Folarin Balogun, and Monaco, who got their first win of thier UEFA Champions League campaign last time out, against Bodo/Glimt, looked on course for victory.

The Principality club had several chances to extend their lead but a mixture of poor finishing and poor decision-making in the final third meant that they were always at risk of throwing the result away. And that did happen, in the 88th minute, and as it was for the first goal, it was a corner that did Les Monégasques. The goal eventually went down as a Mohammed Salisu own goal.

The Ghana international was critical of his teammates post-match, particularly the forwards. “We need players with the right mentality. That means that we don’t let up until the 90th minute. What we’re missing is finishing chances, because in defence, it’s going well. We are running, we are helping each other, but up front, that isn’t the case. It’s a bit difficult,” said the Monaco defender.
