Moïn Chaabani has been appointed Tunisia head coach after a chaotic World Cup campaign. He had managed RS Berkane since February 2024.

Tunisia went out at the 2026 World Cup in the group stage, losing to Sweden 1-5, Japan 0-4 and the Netherlands 1-3. Sabri Lamouchi was sacked after the opener, with Hervé Renard installed at short notice. According to Agence de presse africaine, Chaabani has agreed a deal through to the 2030 World Cup.

RS Berkane confirmed his departure. The Moroccan club said he had previously been approached twice for the national job, with talks revived a third time. Although contracted until 30 June 2027, he accepted the call to lead his country.

Berkane released him in recognition of the importance of managing the national team. Chaabani delivered the club’s first Moroccan league title in 2024-2025 and won the Confederation Cup in the same season.

The 45-year-old, formerly in charge of Espérance Tunis, now takes on a rebuild of the Carthage Eagles.
