AS Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro set out deadline day, with Chelsea pushing for Lamine Camara and Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton collapsing amid financial pressure and tough calls.

According to Goal.com, Scuro said Chelsea repeatedly tried to prise the 22-year-old midfielder away while Monaco’s priority was to keep him for a third season. The club held firm that the Senegal international was not for sale.

Scuro outlined the need to raise revenue in a strict French financial climate, including a planned 20% wage-bill reduction that was close to being achieved before Balogun’s exit fell through.

He added the collapse also blocked a deal for Erik Lira from Cruz Azul, because the agreement depended on Balogun leaving to free a non-EU spot.

Scuro believes Camara will remain professional despite any excitement over Chelsea. For Balogun, he said other markets stay open, there is a chance he stays, and Monaco will talk to him on return.
