AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement has revealed that Krépin Diatta (24) has sustained a knee injury after the Senegalese winger missed Les Monégasques 4-3 victory over Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace on Sunday.
Diatta trained with his teammates on Friday and was initially in the matchday squad. However, he wasn’t on the teamsheet come Sunday and speaking in a pre-match press conference, Clement revealed why.
“He returned from the [Senegalese] national team and felt something in his knee whilst he was on international duty after having played on a synthetic pitch. He trained for a day and felt something and then today he was worse and he couldn’t do all of the exercises. So with the training staff, we took the decision not to take any risks,” he told Get French Football News‘ Luke Entwistle.
Diatta has played 35 times for Monaco in all competitions this season. During that time, he has scored four goals and registered six assists. No return date has been given for Diatta, but in his absence, Vanderson scored the opening goal for the Principality side in Sunday’s victory.
