AS Monaco winger Krépin Diatta (23) has said that the club must “aim higher” after consolidating their place on the Ligue 1 podium with a 2-1 victory against Stade Brestois on Sunday.
Monaco have had an excellent start to 2023. Despite a shock defeat to Rodez in the Coupe de France, Les Monégasques are unbeaten in Ligue 1 since the turn of the year, are unbeaten in their last nine games in the French top-flight, and haven’t lost away from home since the 23rd of October.
The Principality club are currently just two points behind Olympique de Marseille and seven points behind Paris Saint-Germain. Monaco have finished third in the last two Ligue 1 seasons, but following Sunday’s victory, Senegalese international Diatta called on the side to “be ambitious.”
“We want to play a big season. We’ve finished thrid twice now. We have to aim higher and be ambitious,” said the former Club Brugge winger in the mixed zone interview, transcribed by L’Équipe post-match. Les Monégasques have a tough week ahead of them, first facing Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their Europa League tie before welcoming local rivals OGC Nice to the Stade Louis II on Sunday.
