AS Monaco’s defeat to Olympique Lyonnais has proven costly. Not only did the 3-1 loss to Paulo Fonseca’s see them lose further ground in the race for European football, there were also a succession of injuries to key players.

Lukas Hradecky did not last long and is expected to miss several weeks with a knee issue, whilst the same goes for Christian Mawissa, who was making his return during the match against OL. The Frenchman has suffered a muscular injury.

However, a much more serious injury was sustained by Mohammed Salisu, as confirmed by the club. The Ghana international, Monaco revealed on Monday, has suffered an ACL injury, which will rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Salisu had been a regular starter due to the absence of Mawissa and that of Eric Dier. This is the second ACL injury for the Principality club in as many matches. Takumi Minamino suffered the same injury during the win over AJ Auxerre during the last match before the winter break.
