Monaco’s Pape Cabral ‘rejects’ Al-Ahli move | OneFootball

Pape Cabral, 19, has rejected a switch to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The academy product extended his contract at AS Monaco over the summer and had been tipped as a breakthrough prospect this season. He has not yet featured for Filipe Luís’ side, and before Friday night’s match against Paris Saint-Germain he was heavily linked with a Gulf move.

Monaco have struggled to generate sales and remain keen to raise funds. Although Cabral is not on high wages, talks with Al-Ahli explored a package worth potentially over €10m.

Monaco were open to an agreement and discussions had advanced. A change of sporting directors then disrupted the process.

The switch was cast into doubt on the Principality side and Cabral was also discouraged from proceeding. The academy product is now set to stay at Monaco, a decision the club have accepted.
