Monaco’s Paul Pogba suffers fresh injury blow

Just 24 hours ahead of Paul Pogba’s (32) much-anticipated return, there has been another setback. He is now unlikely to feature before the upcoming international break.

Sébastien Pocognoli said on Wednesday night that Pogba could be included in the matchday squad to face Paris FC on Saturday. An appearance would have ended a hiatus of over two years. La Pioche’s last game dates back to September 2023, when he was playing for Juventus, prior to his doping ban.

Since signing a two-year deal with Monaco at the end of June, Pogba has been on a three-month programme to bring him back to full fitness. It had been thought that the Frenchman would return to play SCO Angers earlier this month, however, a minor injury delayed that return.

There has now been another delay, with Pocognoli revealing that the former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder suffered an ankle injury in training on Thursday. “We are awaiting confirmation of the severity of the injury,” said Pocognoli.

He added that it is “hoped” that Pogba will only be out for a further two weeks. Either way, he won’t play against Paris FC, as had been hoped, and he is unlikely to play before the November international break. “The idea is that he can be available after the international break (for the game against Stade Rennais on 22nd November). That is the plan that we are following. We are all disappointed,” added the Monaco manager.
