League leaders Hearts received a boost in the title hunt when both Rangers and Celtic dropped points in the previous gameweek. The Old Firm rivals will now clash heads on Sunday afternoon, with the second-placed Gers set to host the reigning Champions. The Jambos must be praying for a draw, as a win over Aberdeen would extend their lead in this three-horse Premiership race.

Their previous Ibrox meeting ended in a stalemate back in August. The Hoops clinched a League Cup victory in the extra time against the ten-man Light Blues, but Danny Rohl’s men avenged the defeat by scripting a 3-1 win at Parkhead earlier this year. The Celts have revived under Martin O’Neill, yet the hosts remain favourites, given their stupendous home run under the German chief.

Defence

Unlike Kasper Schmeichel, Jack Butland has been a revelation in Rangers’ goal. His presence between the sticks could frustrate Celtic, as they have struggled for goals in recent outings.

Dujon Sterling has suffered another injury setback and is expected to be sidelined, having missed out on last weekend’s Livingston fixture. Skipper James Tavernier should keep his place at right-back ahead of Max Aarons. However, John Souttar and Emmanuel Fernandez must once again feature as the central defensive pair, with Nasser Djiga set to deputise them in the heart of the backline. Tuur Rommens has replaced Jayden Meghoma on the left and should retain his starting status on Sunday lunchtime.

Midfield

Rohl has instantly deployed Tochi Chukwuani as a deep-lying playmaker alongside Nicolas Raskin. They must continue as the ‘double pivot’, with Mohamed Diomande losing the first-team spot to his former Nordsjaelland midfield partner. Connor Barron and Bailey Rice remain ruled out due to their long-term injury concerns.

Mikey Moore looked sharp and effective as a ‘number 10’ against Livi. The on-loan Tottenham Hotspur teenager should get the nod over Thelo Aasgaard following his late equaliser at Almondvale. Djeidi Gassama and Andreas Skov Olsen must start from the flanks, but the likes of Nedim Bajrami and Oliver Antman might get involved at some point in the second half.

Attack

Despite being inconsistent up top, Youssef Chermiti has delivered on big occasions. Besides netting a brace against Celtic at Parkhead, the young Portuguese grabbed a hat-trick in their emphatic 4-2 win over Hearts. Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski are able alternatives who could be introduced as ‘super subs’.
