Portuguese media warn FC Porto will not back down on Rodrigo Mora, insisting Roma must make the obligation to buy easy to activate for €50m, amid reports the clauses are ‘unrealistic.’

The two clubs had seemingly reached an agreement on the formula late Tuesday evening, a paid loan at €7-10m and option to buy for a further €40-43m that would become an obligation if certain conditions were met.

This is where it all went wrong, as Porto expected the conditions to be easy to achieve, and were horrified when they saw what Roma were proposing instead.

According to O Jogo and A Bola, the conditions to activate the obligation to buy range from Champions League qualification with a certain number of games played by Mora, to even the Giallorossi winning the Scudetto.

Considering Roma have only just qualified for the Champions League after a seven-year absence, and have not won the Serie A title since 2001, they were considered ‘unrealistic’ conditions.

The situation remains one of complete stasis, as Porto are content to sit back and keep Mora unless the €50m sale is guaranteed.

Agent Jorge Mendes is trying to mediate between them, but it’s claimed the two clubs have not had any direct contact for over 24 hours.

Mendes also has a somewhat fraught rapport with Porto chief Andre Villas-Boas, which isn’t helping the situation.

Mora only turned 19 in May and last season contributed five goals with two assists in 44 competitive games for Porto.

He can play as a trequartista behind the striker, a support forward, or an attacking winger.
