More details of Arsenal player’s loan deal have been revealed

Arsenal did a lot of business in the recently concluded transfer window, especially on transfer deadline day as the recruitment team facilitated the departure of a number of fringe players. Players like Albert Sambi Lokonga and Jakub Kiwior left the club on a permanent basis, while Reiss Nelson and Oleksandr Zinchenko were loaned out to fellow Premier League clubs. The details surrounding their respective deals have not been made public, which has led to some conflicting reports. That said, the figures surrounding the departure of one player have come to light, just under two weeks following his exit.

Fabio Vieira’s Hamburg loan deal

Fabio Vieira, along with Lokonga, joined Hamburger SV during the transfer deadline, with Lokonga joining on a permanent transfer while Vieira joined on loan. According to a report by Sporting News’ Chris Wheatley, the deal involved a loan fee of less than €400,000. The report also added the figure could drop further depending on performance-related conditions.

Furthermore, the deal also has a purchase option of approximately €20 million if the player impresses this campaign. The buy option is valid until mid-May, just after the conclusion of the campaign, to give the Germans the opportunity to ponder over a move. If he manages to secure a permanent switch, the Gunners have safeguarded themselves with a sell-on clause, reportedly between 10–20 per cent.

The player is yet to make his competitive debut for the Bundesliga outfit, but did feature in a friendly against Hannover 96 during the international break. He could make his debut against Bayern Munich on Saturday, following the resumption of club football.

Vieira’s future prospects

Fabio Vieira spent the previous campaign on loan at his boyhood club. He made 42 appearances and contributed 11 goals to their cause, but Porto did not make the move permanent last summer. Reports suggested they could not meet Arsenal’s demands, while they opted to sign another Arsenal player instead.

Following an impressive Portuguese Liga campaign last season, it will be fascinating to see how he fares in the Bundesliga.
