Strong Economic Impact from AFCON 2025

Morocco’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 delivered major economic returns according to Ryad Mezzour the country’s Minister of Industry & Trade.

Speaking to France 24 ,, Mezzour confirmed that the direct revenues exceeded €1 billion surpassing the total costs of organizing the continental tournament.

The minister explained that the profits came mainly from tourism inflows visiting supporters and sharp rise in domestic consumption during the competition period.

These figures confirm that AFCON 2025 was not only sporting success but also financially sustainable event for the host nation.

Consumption & Sales Rose Sharply

Mezzour highlighted strong growth across several economic indicators. He revealed that car sales increased by more than 35%,, while overall consumption rose by over 25% during tournament period.

According to the minister the positive effects extended beyond short term revenues. The preparation for AFCON 2025 created hundreds of thousands of job opportunities providing direct boost to the national economy and supporting local businesses across multiple sectors.

AFCON as Step Toward the World Cup

One of the key takeaways from Mezzour’s comments was the long term value of the tournament. He stressed that around 80% of the investments made for AFCON 2025 align with the infrastructure Morocco needs to host World Cup in future.

This, he said, turns the Africa Cup of Nations into strategic investment not just one off event. The upgraded stadiums, transport networks and services are expected to benefit Moroccan sport and the wider economy for years to come.
