We looked at how Morgan Rogers' current wages at Aston Villa compare to what he was earning during his time at Middlesbrough.

Forward Morgan Rogers has become one of the brightest talents in English football following his surprise move from Middlesbrough to Aston Villa last January.

Rogers joined Middlesbrough from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for a fee of just £1 million, and he scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 33 games in his first six months at the Riverside Stadium.

It was not all plain sailing for Rogers on Teesside as he struggled to nail down his place in the starting line-up in the Championship, with much of his success coming in the EFL Cup as his side reached the semi-finals of the competition, so it is fair to say that eyebrows were raised when news of Villa's interest emerged in the January transfer window.

Despite many questioning the links, it quickly became clear that Rogers was Unai Emery's number one target, and after the Midlands outfit had multiple bids rejected for the 22-year-old, he eventually made the move to Villa Park for an initial fee of £8 million, which could eventually rise to £16 million if all add-ons are met.

Villa's gamble on Rogers has certainly been rewarded over the past 18 months, and the fee the club paid for him is now looking like something of a bargain as his meteoric rise continues.

Rogers may not have been an automatic starter for Middlesbrough in the Championship, but it did not take him long to force his way into the Villa team after his January move, and he scored three goals and provided one assist in 17 appearances in the second half of last season to help Unai Emery's men finish fourth in the Premier League.

As he continues to find his feet in the top flight, Rogers has taken his form to another level this season, and he scored his 13th goal of an outstanding campaign in his side's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which was their seventh straight victory in all competitions.

Such is Rogers' growing importance to Villa, he has started all but one of the games he has been available for this season, and he has had plenty of standout moments, most notably the hat-trick he scored in the 4-2 win over Celtic in the Champions League in January.

As a reward for his strong form at club level, Rogers was handed his first call-up to the England senior squad in November, and he made his debut for his country as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over Greece in the Nations League.

It seems certain that Rogers has got a big future ahead of him at the highest level, but it was not long ago that his career looked to be taking a very different path at Boro, and we looked back at how much he was earning during his time at the Riverside Stadium.

Morgan Rogers' Middlesbrough wages compared to Aston Villa salary

According to Capology, Rogers took home £5,000 per week during his time at Middlesbrough, and he would have received a total of £260,000 per year if he had remained at the club, although it should be stressed that those figures are an estimate.

Of course, that is still a significant salary, but Rogers was one of Boro's lowest-paid players last season, and he received much less than the likes of Jonny Howson (£25,000 per week), Paddy McNair (£20,000 per week), Isaiah Jones (£15,000 per week) and Marcus Forss (£14,038 per week).

Given that Rogers was a young player who had not proven himself at Championship level, it is understandable that Boro did not offer him a particularly lucrative contract, but his wages increased substantially after his move to Villa, rising to £20,000 per week and £1,400,000 per year.

It seems that Villa saw enough from Rogers last season to boost his salary even further, and reflecting his status as one of the club's key players, he is now estimated to earn a staggering £75,000 per week and £3,900,000 per year.

However, those eye-watering numbers do not even come close to the wages of some of the club's biggest earners, including Marcus Rashford (£225,000 per week), Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Martínez and Boubacar Kamara (all £150,000 per week) and Amadou Onana and Donyell Malen (both £140,000 per week).

Rogers is currently estimated to be receiving £70,000 more per week at Villa than what he was paid at Boro
