Morgan Rogers has been named Europa League player of the season after inspiring Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Freiburg in Istanbul.
According to L'Équipe, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder scored and supplied a goal in Wednesday’s final, while Emiliano Buendia was named man of the match.
Rogers impressed throughout the campaign and succeeds Tottenham’s Argentine defender Cristian Romero.
A key figure in Villa’s run, he produced three goals and five assists in 15 matches, helping end the club’s 30-year wait for a trophy.
He should be in the Three Lions squad for the World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July.
Despite the defeat, Freiburg’s Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi, 20, was named the Europa League’s revelation of the season.
