Moroccan newspapers have hailed their national team, with pride the prevailing theme, despite a 0-2 World Cup quarter-final defeat to France.

Morocco’s run ended on Thursday night against Didier Deschamps’ side, having earlier eliminated the Netherlands in the round of 32 after a 1-1 draw and 3-2 on penalties. According to L'Équipe, domestic coverage largely celebrated the campaign. Morocco became the first African nation to reach the last eight twice.

Le Matin praised a remarkable journey, stressing the team’s capacity to compete with the world’s best. It also pointed to a stable FIFA top 10 ranking and argued this level is no longer a one-off.

Le 360 Sport said there was no shame in going out to one of the planet’s strongest teams, adding the run reflects Morocco’s striking progress since 2022 and its status among leading nations. Libération called the journey heroic and said the players had again proved their worth on the global stage.

Others highlighted the struggles against France. L’Opinion felt Morocco looked exhausted and short of intensity, while Al Massae was harsher, describing a ghostly display and arguing courage to attack from the first minute, rather than talent, was missing.

Coverage nonetheless stressed that success endures and the team depart with heads held high, thinking ahead. Le 360 Sport added that, with a few exceptions, this group should reconvene in 2030, when Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, and the ambition to become Africa’s first world champions remains.
