An appeal court in Rabat has upheld prison terms of three months to one year for 18 Senegal fans over incidents at the AFCON 2025 final. According to Le Progres, prosecutors had sought tougher punishments than those imposed at first instance.

The 18 January final in Rabat finished 1-0 to Senegal after a chaotic finish. Morocco were awarded a late penalty moments after a Senegal goal was ruled out, triggering attempts to invade the pitch and projectiles thrown.

Following around 15 minutes of confusion, players returned from the dressing rooms. Brahim Diaz missed the penalty and, in extra time, Pape Gueye struck the winner.

The fans, detained since the final, were tried for hooliganism, covering violence against police, damage to stadium equipment, pitch invasion and throwing objects.

Nine were given one year plus a 5,000 dirhams fine, six received six months and 2,000 dirhams, and three got three months and 1,000 dirhams. A Frenchman of Algerian origin also received three months and a 1,000 dirhams fine for throwing a water bottle. Those on three months are eligible for release from next Saturday.

In court on Monday the defendants denied wrongdoing, saying they went onto the pitch due to a crowd surge or to escape spitting and missiles, not to contest a decision. Lawyer Patrick Kabou said he took note of the ruling and argued the case lacked proof. Defence lawyer Naïma El Guellaf sought the screening of video evidence, which prosecutors opposed, citing flagrante delicto.
