Fernandes finished his shift with an 8.9 rating on Fotmob – the highest of any player on the pitch.

It came after he created the most chances (five), dispatched the most accurate crosses (three) and notched the most assists (two), prompting StatmanDave to hail him as ‘Portugal’s main man’.

He also recorded 35 accurate passes, three clearances, three recoveries and one block, showing it was a real all-rounder display from the Red Devils talisman.

United fans will be relieved to see Fernandes fit and at his best following on from his injury concerns over the last week.

Jorge Jesus revealed last weekend that the 32-year-old had arrived at camp nursing a knock, leading to him being dropped for Portugal’s clash with Norway.

It was subsequently reported that Fernandes had sustained some fitness problems while in action for United against Sabah, where he played the full 90 minutes despite the side boasting a three-goal lead by half-time.

As a result, the skipper was made to undergo late tests to ensure it was safe for him to feature in the Manchester derby and for the trip to Craven Cottage a fortnight ago.

Michael Carrick will want Fernandes at 100 per cent ahead of United’s upcoming run, which sees them in action six times across October.

They start off by hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10, before travelling to the Metropolitano for a Champions League encounter against Atletico Madrid on October 13.
