Mostafa Mohamed was absent in Sablé-sur-Sarthe on Saturday as Nantes opened pre-season with a 5-0 win over Fleury (L3). The 28-year-old has not reported to the Jonelière training centre since the restart on 24 June, and new head coach Michel Der Zakarian addressed the situation after the game.
"Mostafa... I have never seen this!" said Der Zakarian. "Today, we see many things in football that are incoherent." He told Ouest-France.
"He decided to do that. We will see when he returns," he added.
The Egyptian has one year left on his Nantes contract, and the club are not thought to have received any offers. He was not selected for the World Cup with the Pharaohs.
He has reportedly been fined, with wage deductions corresponding to his days of absence.
Since arriving in 2023, Mohamed has scored 29 goals in 136 matches in all competitions. He scored four in Ligue 1 last season.
