Multiple Serie A Teams Customarily Busy on Deadline Day

Article image:Multiple Serie A Teams Customarily Busy on Deadline Day

Deadline day wasn’t bombastic in Serie A but was eventful as usual, with several teams looking for late bargains. Atalanta won the Jonathan Rowe sweepstakes thanks to a €40M offer. They got more than that for selling Honest Ahanor to Chelsea, who will play a season at Crystal Palace first, Sky reports.

Como announced the arrival of Moise Kean from Fiorentina for a €40M package. Despite a few attempts for Joshua Zirkzee, Fiorentina had to settle for Norberto Beto on a €17M deal from Everton. The Viola also added talented winger Pedro Gonçalves on an initial loan from Sporting CP. The Lariani will have a high-profile backup striker, Roberto Sanchez, who’s coming from Chelsea.

Milan had found a solution for Youssouf Fofana, but his move to Olympique Lyonnais still hangs in the balance. Lazio landed Albert Gudmundsson from Fiorentina for at least this season.

Fiorentina continued their overhaul by sending Rolando Mandragora to Torino. The Granata doubled down on their midfield, also acquiring Daniel Bragança from Sporting CP. Genoa cashed in on Brooke Norton-Cuffy, selling him to Hull City and getting Cody Drameh in return. Parma brought former Como defender Diego Carlos back to Italy from Fenerbahce. Cagliari found a Marco Palestra replacement, at least tactically, signing Yukinari Sugawara on loan from Southampton.

Our Take on Deadline Day in Serie A

Zirkzee’s agent should get on the same page with Manchester City and stop shopping him around if even two teams that needed him and one very determined one, Fiorentina, couldn’t strike a deal with Manchester City. The Viola have really gone scorched earth on their squad, perhaps excessively so. Torino, Lazio, Parma, and Cagliari completed smart operations, significantly improving their squads. Atalanta stepped out of their comfort zone to lure a very gifted player, though still with a somewhat limited track record.
