Juventus took their chances with Francisco Conceicao and Gleison Bremer, dooming Maurizio Sarri’s Atalanta to a third consecutive defeat.

The Bianconeri got back on track with Thursday’s 5-0 Europa League victory over NEC, but scraped one point from the last two Serie A games, so the pressure was already on. Kamil Grabara added to the injury crisis with Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram, Jeremie Boga, Andrea Cambiaso, Jeff Ekhator and Juan Cabal. Hosting Maurizio Sarri, Luciano Spalletti switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation.

La Dea were coming off back-to-back defeats against Roma and Cagliari, with Odilon Kossounou, Isak Hien and Kamaldeen Sulemana sidelined, but Gianluca Gaetano was back from suspension. Franck Kessie had been in advanced talks with Juve before signing for Atalanta.

Randal Kolo Muani stung Marco Carnesecchi’s gloves in the opening 90 seconds, but the deadlock was broken when Zeki Celik rolled across from the left and found Francisco Conceicao totally unmarked to sweep in first time from 12 yards into the far bottom corner.

Jonathan Rowe had penalty appeals rejected for a Pierre Kalulu shirt tug, so Pape Malang Sarr came on for the restart, shoring up the Juve midfield.

A Nico Gonzalez glancing header on a corner flashed across the face of goal to skim the far post, but Rowe surged forward to test Guglielmo Vicario with a daisy-cutter, which was palmed away beyond Charles De Ketelaere.

Raoul Bellanova first and then Giorgio Scalvini made the necessary runs to block off Francisco Conceicao in dangerous moves, but Carnesecchi made a fine reaction save to deny Weston McKennie’s header on a Nico Gonzalez cross from eight yards.

Atalanta thought they had equalised on 63 minutes when Kristensen’s header beat Vicario from six yards, but Kolo Muani performed a decisive goal-line clearance.

There were two promising Juve runs with Kolo Muani and Nico Gonzalez, but both slipped at the crucial moment, and Carnesecchi got down to push a Sarr low drive away.

Juventus did double their lead when Bremer nodded down an Edon Zhegrova corner, surprising Giacomo Raspadori at the base of the near post.

Carnesecchi kept the scoreline down with late saves from point-blank range on Kolo Muani and from the resulting corner on Teun Koopmeiners.
