With Gustavo Gómez suspended, Murilo is in line to captain Palmeiras on Wednesday 16 in the CONMEBOL Libertadores decider against LDU at Estádio Rodrigo Paz Delgado, Quito, kick-off 19:00 Brasília time.

According to Nosso Palestra, the 2026 armband hierarchy has Gómez on 44 games as captain, followed by Murilo on six, Piquerez on three and Marcelo Lomba on one.

Murilo has been central to the back line and scored in the 2-0 win over São Paulo in the Brasileiro on Saturday 12.

Piquerez remains the main doubt after a heavy challenge from Osorio in the derby led to a half-time withdrawal. Scans ruled out a fracture of his left ankle, and he continues to be monitored.

On Monday 14 he stayed indoors during the morning session at the Academy of Football. After travelling to Ecuador he trained on the pitch in the first workout in Quito, held at Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa, starting preparation with the squad.

His presence on the pitch is a boost for Abel Ferreira, but it does not confirm his selection. He will be assessed up to kick-off, and if he is not fit, Arthur is the leading alternative for the role.

Palmeiras’ defence is therefore a key focus for the tie. They travel holding a 1-0 first-leg advantage from Nubank Parque and need only a draw to reach the semi-finals.
