With a gripping Matchweek 16 done and dusted (check out our must-read Talking Points), we bring you the best performers in their respective positions for the round, using the Roshn Saudi League’s unique Performance Index (explainer below).
The Slovak stopper was a pivotal part of the Al Ettifaq side who kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win at champions Al Ittihad. Not only that, Rodak ranked second in the match for recoveries (10) and joint-best for successful long balls (six).
One of three Al Khaleej defenders to make the team, the Portuguese full-back helped keep Al Khaleej on their winning run with his display in the 4-1 home victory against Al Okhdood. Despite playing at the back, Rebocho laid on two assists, while he threw in the equal-highest number of interceptions (two).
The Saudi Arabia centre-back continues to thrive for the RSL leaders, his goal at NEOM Sports Club drawing Al Hilal level before they went on to register a 12th successive league win. Also, no one won more tackles in Tabuk than Tambakti (three).
The second of Al Khaleej’s defenders to feature, Al Khabrani helped the team reel off a third consecutive victory to keep alive hopes of a top-six finish this campaign. His 63 successful passes was bettered by only two other players on the pitch.
Making up the Al Khaleej triumvirate, the Dutch centre-back was a commanding presence at the back and was so close to a second clean sheet of the campaign. In fact, Schenkeveld was withdrawn with seven minutes of normal time remaining; Al Okhdood got their goal in injury-time.
The versatile Al Qadsiah full-back was excellent in the thumping 5-1 win at Al Hazem, where he teed up Julian Quinones for his side’s third and then was unfortunate that his late strike was deemed an own goal.
Abu Al Shamat ranked joint-highest among his teammates for successful long balls (five) and, in the game overall, for chances created (two).
Has there been a more impressive performer at Al Khaleej this term than the Greek midfielder?
However, instead of adding to his league-high 10 assists, Fortounis got on the scoresheet himself by netting the third goal with a great bit of skill and finish. Meanwhile, he led the game for successful long balls (five) and was equal-best for fouls won (four).
The reigning RSL Young Player of the Year is back and pulling the strings once more for Al Qadsiah.
Excellent again in the rout at Al Hazem, the Saudi Arabia international helped set up Mateo Retegui’s opener, then notched the second with a sumptuous finish. He also registered joint-highest for chances created (two).
Another matchweek, another super showing from Al Hilal’s midfield supremo. Not only did Neves convert a penalty for the second game in a row - this time, though, it settled the clash at NEOM SC - he topped the stats for successful passes (52), successful long balls (11), chances created (five) and total touches (85).
It was full marks for Al Taawoun’s in-form forward after bagging all three goals in the third-placed club's 3-1 win at Al Riyadh.
Martinez grabbed the opener with some sublime close control and a fine finish, his second was another coolly converted penalty while, for his third, he broke beyond the backline to casually stroke home. The Colombia now has 12 goals this term in the race for the golden boot.
It feels appropriate that an Al Khaleej player rounds off a Team of the Week dominated by the Saihat outfit. Masouras scored twice in that emphatic win against Al Okhdood, his first a superb run and finish high into the top corner to make it 2-0.
He then completed the hosts’ superiority with his second following Josh King’s centre. Masouras led the encounter, too, for shots on target (three) and crosses, while no one created more chances (three).
