Mykhailo Mudryk Completes Spurs Loan Move As Chelsea Accept Roberto De Zerbi Reunion | OneFootball

It's a busy end to the transfer window for Chelsea.

Mykhailo Mudryk has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the 2026-27 season.

The 25-year-old makes the switch from west to north London and reunites with Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi, who he played under during their time at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mudryk returned to action this summer after his doping case was resolved. His last competitive appearance for Chelsea was in November 2024.

After a pre-season with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, a decision was made for the Ukrainian to go on loan to get regular minutes. But they opted to take their time choosing the final destination.

Brentford, Coventry City, Leeds United, and Sunderland all showed interest in Mudryk, but Spurs have won the race to sign him. Chelsea also considered Strasbourg, but Mudryk wanted to remain in England.

Mudryk bolsters Spurs' attack after a heavy summer spend in north London. Savio and Omar Marmoush have been signed from Manchester City. Spurs also have Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus as part of their wide options.

After Spurs' dismal start to the new league season, losing to both Brentford and Newcastle United, De Zerbi will be hoping Mudryk can provide a positive influence to help them get back on track.

"It's a great feeling," said Mudryk. "I can't wait to start training and playing for the Club, and I'm so excited to be reunited with Roberto De Zerbi.

"I'm a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help in both the offensive and defensive areas. I want to make the fans excited.

"I can see it's a strong squad here with good players, and I'm looking forward to sharing a pitch and special moments with them."

A £75 million buy-option clause has been included in the loan deal for Mudryk.

Mudryk's debut could come as early as Saturday against Nottingham Forest. If the trip to the City Ground comes too early, Spurs will target their home clash against Everton on September 12 for his first appearance.

Is Spurs the right move for Mudryk?

Although Chelsea would prefer not to strengthen a rival, Mudryk's relationship with De Zerbi could help him settle back in and find his feet again.

It allows Mudryk to stay in London for a year without relocating, giving Chelsea the chance to keep a close eye on him throughout the campaign.

Given his competition at Spurs and the relationship he has with De Zerbi, Mudryk can be hopeful of regular game time.

Like Chelsea, Spurs are not in Europe, so there is a limited set of minutes, so Mudryk will be keen to stake his claim for a regular role in the league, as well as cup competitions - with Spurs still in the Carabao Cup.

De Zerbi has spoken extremely highly of Mudryk in the past and recently. When he was Brighton and Hove Albion boss, he admitted he believed Mudryk could win the Ballon d’Or one day.

“Mudryk can win the Ballon d’Or in the future,” De Zerbi said back in December 2022. “I know the value of Mudryk. He has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or."
