Mykhailo Mudryk interest was real as Leeds talks stalled, says Adam Underwood | OneFootball

Leeds United explored a move for Mykhailo Mudryk in the summer, with genuine interest from the winger, before talks with Chelsea collapsed over the structure of a deal, sporting director Adam Underwood has said.

“You never want to give up on the possibility. But as soon as it becomes abundantly clear that it just isn't going to happen you cut it off. So on deadline day, early doors in this room, you’re rattling through what you think are suitable candidates to revisit with the manager.”

He was speaking in a transfer feature on the club's official website.

“Ideally at that stage, none of the names are new to a manager because you're putting on a whole heap of pressure that's not necessary, unless it's an exceptional profile. Daniel and his staff have a really good knowledge of the market anyway.”

Leeds pursued Mudryk, with his agent keeping lines of communication open, but no agreement was reached due to Chelsea's preferred structure.

He later joined Tottenham on loan. Leeds added Jean-Matteo Bahoya on loan with an obligation to buy from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Melvin Bard on loan from Nice.

Mudryk had served seven months of a four-year anti-doping ban before all charges were dropped in July. Leeds are fifth after five matches and unbeaten, while Tottenham sit bottom on two points.
