Giorgio Scalvini has signed a new Atalanta deal to 2031, yet says he would like to play abroad one day. The Italy defender balanced commitment with an openness to a future move.

He addressed the media at Coverciano on Wednesday ahead of Italy’s Nations League meeting with France on Friday. According to Football Italia, he discussed Italy’s 4-1 win over Türkiye, Roberto Mancini’s return to the Azzurri dugout and his contract situation.

The 22-year-old has spent his entire senior career with Atalanta and debuted for Italy at 18 during Mancini’s first stint. His renewal was confirmed over the weekend.

He said he extended because he has always felt comfortable at the club. He added that he understands players who move abroad, and that he would like that experience one day to learn new ideas, while noting he is already learning at Atalanta.

Newcastle showed interest in the recent summer window, with Chelsea doing so in the summer of 2025. Reports in July valued him at more than €50m, a figure that might now be higher after his extension.
