Instead the legendary Celt will be back in the dugout on Wednesday night for the game against Dundee at Celtic Park.
“Right. I thought it was my last game,” Martin O’Neill told Sky Sports ahead of this afternoon’s 2-1 win against Hibs at Easter Road as Celtic reduced the Hearts lead to just two points with the Scottish Champions also having a game in hand.
“Then I got a call yesterday to say the process is still ongoing and that there’s a really decent chance that I will still be here for Wednesday.
“I would love to say to you, you must be bored out of your brain hearing it, but I would think that would definitely be my last one.
“But I don’t know how many times I can say that to you. That would be it, if that was the case,” Martin O’Neill said.

After a strong start from Hibs Celtic scored twice in around a minute on 27-28 minutes with Reo Hatate setting up Daizen Maeda for a simple finish before Yang crossed a Arne Engels bravely headed to double Celtic’s advantage, taking a high boot in the face in the process.
Celtic’s heavy legs in the second half meant that it was a case of seeing out the match but Boyle slotted a penalty past Peter Schmeichel, with a half hour to play, to give the home support encouragement in a stadium that looked half empty, with the crazy situation of clubs preferring empty seats to paying punters.
Martin O’Neill used his substitutes to help those tired Celtic legs and got the game across the line with the three points safely on their way back to Glasgow as the Hoops eye top spot next Sunday when we play Hearts at Parkhead.

Will that be Wilfried Nancy’s first game in charge or will there be another outing for Martin O’Neill who has been doing a tremendous job since replacing Brendan Rodgers at the end of October.
