Ignatius Ganago, Cameroon and FC Nantes striker has tragically lost his 5-year-old daughter to illness. With the loss of his daughter taking priority over football, the 23-year-old forward will not participate in the Europa League clash against Juventus this Thursday evening. He will be headed back to Cameroon where the funeral will take place.
Lens, the striker’s former club, posted a message on social media in support of the Cameroon international. Ganago has become an important part of Antoine Kombouaré’s system. This season, the first-year Nantes striker has 3 goals and 3 assists in 17 matches. His positional flexibility and work off the ball will be hard to replace when Les Canaris heads to Turin.
Nantes will hope to compete with the Italian side as a united front and make it back to the Stade de la Beaujoire for the second leg in their Europa League match-up level where they have the home-field advantage. We can only hope.
But, however, important the match may be for Nantes, this is an instance where football comes secondary to life off the pitch. GFFN and the football community send their condolences to the striker and his family during this difficult time.
