History is repeating itself as Massimiliano Allegri looks set to replace Antonio Conte as head coach of Napoli for the 2026-27 season, as it was at Juventus ahead of the 2014-15 campaign.

Allegri set to replace Conte, again

According to the latest updates across Italy, Napoli have accelerated in negotiations with Allegri over the last 24 hours, and now have a full verbal agreement in place over a two-year deal at the Stadio Maradona.

Conte already confirmed that he would be leaving Napoli at the end of the 2025-26 season, and Allegri’s departure from Milan was made official the day after the season came to an end, after the Rossoneri had missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.

Now, Allegri, after just one year back in charge of Milan, is set to take over from Conte at Napoli.

This is a situation that also occurred at Juventus over a decade ago, when Conte left the Old Lady shortly before the start of the 2014-15 season. Juve decided to turn to Allegri, who had just left Milan a few months earlier.

Conte had won three consecutive Serie A titles during his three seasons in charge of Juventus, and the Bianconeri remain the only club that the coach has stayed at for any longer than two seasons. The baton was passed over to Allegri, who would go on to win the next five consecutive Serie A titles.
