Lorenzo Lucca has experienced a rapid downturn ever since joining Napoli, and his January departure can’t be ruled out, with Roma and Milan waiting in the wings since they are searching for offensive help, Sky reports.
He didn’t show well in his first few showings. The Partenopei quickly decided to turn to another player, Rasmus Hojlund, once Romelu Lukaku suffered a significant thigh injury. The Italian marksman hasn’t exploited his opportunities so far. He has scored twice in 16 appearances and logging just 538 minutes, 33 per match.
Napoli brought in Lucca on loan with a €35M obligation to buy, so his departure won’t be easy to engineer, even though Milan and Roma could rekindle their interest.
Lukaku is about to return. The Azzurri could elect to rationalize their resource and let the former Udinese star go, at least temporarily, to replenish their understaffed midfield.
The Rossoneri need to convince Santiago Gimenez to leave before signing another center-forward. The capital club is focused on Joshua Zirkzee. It’s far from certain that Manchester United will sign off on his exit.
His spell couldn’t have gone any worse. He was overpaid to begin with, he didn’t show enough to compete with Hojlund, and his confidence is totally shot now. While there are the technical premises for his exit, provided Lukaku looks fine once he’s ready to play, the mechanics and economic elements are complex. Plus, it doesn’t make sense for the Partenopei to help a rival. A loan to a smaller Italian side or to a foreign one, so he could play consistently and restore his value, could satisfy all parties.
