Napoli are weighing a move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes and could try for a reduced fee if relegation occurs. TMW reports that the Italian club have been closely tracking the 23-year-old with summer changes in mind.
Gomes has been central at Molineux since joining from Flamengo, winning favour for aggressive pressing and consistent ball winning. Scouts view him as a leading option to reinforce midfield for the reigning champions.
His defensive work and ability to recover possession fit the profile Napoli often demand in central areas. Jorge Mendes is said to be involved, with groundwork being laid for a possible transfer.
Wolves are aware of continent-wide interest and have set an asking price that reflects his status. The figure is thought to be €40-50 million, equivalent to £34.5-£43 million.
Whether that sum can be achieved is unclear, with relegation still looking very likely. Napoli are watching closely, and there is a belief the price would drop if Wolves go down.
A drop into the Championship could invite wider interest and spark a bidding battle. From the Premier League, Crystal Palace and Manchester United have been linked with Gomes in recent times.
