Eintracht were beaten 3-2 at Borussia Dortmund on Friday evening. Can Uzun and Jonathan Burkardt scored for the Eagles at the start and end of the match.
Four changes Head coach Albert Riera made four changes to his starting line-up for the final away game of the season. Arthur Theate, Farès Chaibi, Mo Dahoud and Ritsu Doan came in for Oscar Højlund, Ansgar Knauff, Jonathan Burkardt and Hugo Larsson, who all dropped to the bench.Dream start Eintracht got off to the perfect start at the sold-out Signal-Iduna-Park. In the second minute, Dahoud dribbled skilfully into the BVB penalty area and laid the ball off to Can Uzun, who curled it into the far corner from 13 metres.
Zetterer prevents equaliserMichael Zetterer was called into action for the first time in the 17th minute, showing good reflexes to stop Samuele Inacio’s close-range header from Julian Brandt’s right-wing cross.Zetterer was also alert to long-distance efforts from Brandt and Jobe Bellingham in the 25th minute as the hosts began to dominate the game. Eintracht did have a good chance of their own through Doan on the counter in the 39th minute, but they were coming under increasing pressure.
Quickfire double from Dortmund In the 42nd minute, the Eintracht defence failed to prevent a cross from Julian Ryerson, which Serhou Guirassy steered into the far corner to make it 1-1. The hosts completed the turnaround in stoppage time when Maximilian Beier cut the ball back from the left edge of the penalty box to Nico Schlotterbeck, who swept it home from seven metres to leave the Eagles trailing 2-1 at the break.Chance for Uzun Riera made the first substitutions in the 57th minute, bringing on Mario Götze and Jean-Matteo Bahoya for Dahoud and Chaibi. Sixty seconds later, Ryerson broke into the Frankfurt box but was thwarted by Zetterer. At the other end, Uzun had a go from the edge of the box but Gregor Kobel was equal to it.
Inacio increases lead With 72 minutes gone, Eintracht failed to deal with a Dortmund attack, allowing Beier to cross from the left to Inacio, who struck the ball first-time on the volley from seven metres, leaving Zetterer no chance from close range.Burkardt pulls one backBorussia appeared to have the game under control but in the 87th minute, Eintracht were given hope. From a perfectly executed counter-attack, Knauff’s shot was saved by Kobel but substitute Burkardt was in the right place to bundle in the rebound and make it 3-2. Shortly after that, Bahoya narrowly missed the target but that proved to be the last chance, as it ended in a 3-2 defeat for the Eagles.
