Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained what Lebohang Maboe brings to the Glamour Boys, having signed for the club on a free transfer after his exit at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Before parting ways with the defending champions at the end of last season, the 30-year-old spent the latter part of the 2024/25 campaign on-loan at the now-defunct SuperSport United.
The transfer saw Maboe reunite with his boyhood club as he was part of the development structures at Naturena, along with long-serving defender Zitha Kwinika, who has been solid at the heart of the Amakhosi defense this season.
Now, the Tunisian mentor heaped praise on the Chiefs hierarchy for acquiring the services of the former Sundowns midfield maestro, with the Soweto giants set to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup this term.
“For Maboe, I have to say congratulations to the board, they did a very good job also, they are so smart in how they make recruitments. Maboe is so intelligent [as a] player, and we need his qualities, we need him,” said Nabi.
“He has a lot of experience; he came to help us with his experience from Sundowns. Now he is working with the fitness coach, and he will be with us and also, we have a lot of players that will get a chance to play for the team, just like [Etiosa] Ighodaro, [Asanele] Velebayi, and [Luke] Baartman.
The 59-year-old tactician added: “For sure they will get time [to play], at the right time we will introduce them to make it easy for them.
Maboe, along with other new signings yet to make their debut for the club, will be keen to be in the matchday squad when Chiefs face Sekhukhune United in a top-of-the-table affair on 16 September at the FNB Stadium.
