Nathan Aké has said goodbye to Manchester City with a heartfelt message, his transfer to Fenerbahçe having been finalised by both clubs. The Dutch defender departs after six trophy-laden years at the Etihad.
The player said in a post that Manchester had shaped him on and off the pitch, noting both highs and painful lows. His father, Moise Aké, died from a terminal illness in September 2021, minutes after he scored his first Champions League goal against RB Leipzig. He added that the club’s support in that period would never be forgotten, and that his daughter was born in the city.
Signed from Bournemouth in 2020 for £41 million, Aké grew into a trusted option across left-back and centre-back. He made 177 competitive appearances and won 4 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League, 1 FA Cup and 2 League Cups, contributing to the 2023 Treble.
His minutes dropped during the 2025/26 season under Enzo Maresca, with emerging centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis increasing competition for places. A move offered clarity over his next steps.
Fenerbahçe have secured Aké for a base £7 million fee, rising to £8.5 million with add-ons. He has agreed personal terms and is set to fly directly to Austria to join pre-season camp.
