Ruben Amorim’s arrival meant Manchester United switched to a back-three, and started utilising wingbacks instead of traditional full-backs.
That meant Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui struggled initially, especially when it came to influencing the game in forward areas.
As a result, INEOS dipped into the transfer market in January and brought in Patrick Dorgu from Lecce to address the obvious gap on the left for an initial £25.2 million.
He looked like an instant upgrade in attack, with his determination and engine impressing one and all, but he still lacks end product.
This season, often times the Dane got into dangerous positions, but failed to beat the first man from his cross.
Which is why, as per CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are among a handful of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Nathaniel Brown of Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 22-year-old can play in a traditional back-four as well as a wingback, and last season, he registered three goals and seven assists in all competitions.
This term, he already has a goal and assist to his name, with Frankfurt in an advantageous position, owing to the German’s contract being valid until 2030.
Manchester City, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Arsenal are all in the race, with the Germany U21 international currently valued at €22 million as per Transfermarkt.
“In recent years, the Bundesliga has continued to serve as a breeding ground for Europe’s brightest young talents, and one name steadily rising through the ranks is Nathaniel Brown.
“The 22-year-old left-back, currently plying his trade at Eintracht Frankfurt, has been making waves with his consistent and assured performances. Now, some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs are beginning to take notice.
“Among the clubs closely monitoring his progress are Manchester City, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Arsenal, sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside.”
Most fans were thinking midfield was the area that INEOS were planning to strengthen in, but it seems wingback remains an area that Amorim thinks needs improvement.
Amad has struggled at times this season, while Dorgu’s understudy Diego Leon might depart on loan in January. So it makes sense to try and bring in Nathaniel Brown, should INEOS manage to find the funds for the deal.
