Naujoks brace fires Excelsior top on Eredivisie opening night | OneFootball

Excelsior beat Cambuur 4-0 at the Kooi Stadion to open the Eredivisie season on top, with Noah Naujoks scoring twice and a late VAR ruling denying a fifth.

In the 17th minute, Irakli Yegoian finished a fast break from Gyan de Regt to put the visitors ahead. Naujoks then turned in Yegoian's cross (31.). David Garden added a close-range header from Simon Janssen's corner (42.) as Ruben den Uil's side took control before the break.

After the restart, Naujoks glanced in another Janssen delivery from a corner (69.) to cap a clinical away display. Cambuur goalkeeper Thijs Janssen made five saves to limit further damage.

Cambuur made two changes at half time and pushed on, with Iwan Henstra and Rafik El Arguioui drawing stops, but Stijn van Gassel needed only one save as Excelsior managed the game well.

Ilano Silva Timas had a goal ruled out after a VAR review in the third minute of second half stoppage time for offside.

Excelsior registered 18 attempts and nine on target. Cambuur tallied 11 attempts and worked the keeper twice. Naujoks now leads the Eredivisie scoring chart with two goals, while Simon Janssen sits first for assists with two.
