A little less than two weeks ago, it was reported that Ron de Groot, assistant coach of NEC, had to be resuscitated during an amateur football match. Well, now he has just had a defibrillator fitted, according to reports from the Netherlands.
Earlier this month, the 64-year-old club icon became unwell while playing in said amateur match. The device that has been fitted should intervene in the event of any cardiac arrhythmia.
De Groot, who played for NEC’s first team between 1979 and 1988 and has held a coaching position since 1993, is currently still in hospital for check-ups. ‘But he expects to be home soon’, NEC announced.
“Ron and his family are overwhelmed by all the support from the NEC family. It should be noted that Ron would benefit from a lot of rest due to his situation. The family therefore requests privacy, so that Ron can recover as well and as quickly as possible”, the Nijmegen residents report in a press release.
People who want to support De Groot can send a card to the Goffert stadium.
