NEC Nijmegen host Telstar in the Eredivisie on Saturday, 8 August 2026 at the Goffertstadion, with opening-day points on the line for a meeting that pairs the hosts' reshaped back line with visitors aiming to halt a four-game slide.
Recent top-flight meetings have been tight: NEC Nijmegen drew 1-1 at home to Telstar in May 2026, after a 2-2 in December 2025.
Form is mixed for the hosts. NEC Nijmegen beat V-Varen Nagasaki and Al-Fayha in pre-season, lost to Anderlecht and Sevilla, then drew away at Olympiacos. Telstar's last five show one win followed by four defeats, most recently losing to Wolfsburg, Sparta Rotterdam and Almere after a March loss at AZ.
Injuries bite for NEC Nijmegen at the back, with defenders Bram Nuytinck, Perr Schuurs and Yassin Moslih listed as out. That could place extra responsibility on experienced attackers such as Dušan Tadić, Koki Ogawa and Emre Mor to set the tone. Telstar have no listed absences.
Routes to goal may hinge on front-line sharpness. NEC Nijmegen could look to Thomas Ouwejan's delivery and the creativity of Tadić and Emre Mor to unlock space, while Telstar have options in attack through Rui Mendes, Kay Tejan and Emirhan Demircan if chances arrive.
Both sides start on zero points. A win would put three on the board and could lift either into the early top half, while defeat may leave them near the bottom places. NEC Nijmegen then visit Willem II, while Telstar are set to host Sparta Rotterdam next.
