Former Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen and PSG defender training NEC Nijmegen | OneFootball

VI are reporting that Mitchel Bakker is currently training with NEC Nijmegen in Spain. The former Ajax, PSG and Bayer Leverkusen defender left Atalanta this summer and has been a free agent. The 26-year-old can play at left-back or higher up on the wing and is hoping to earn a contract with NEC Nijmegen, who are hoping to add to their squad as they look to balance domestic and European football this season. If NEC add Bakker, and get him back to full fitness, it could prove to be a decent pick up on a free for the club.

Bakker began his career with Ajax, playing only two games for the club before joining PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2019. Bakker went on to play 45 games for the French side providing two assists and winning a number of trophies while he was with the club. In the summer of 2021 Bakker left PSG to join Bayer Leverkusen, where he played 70 games over the course of two seasons, scoring five goals and providing eight assists. His performances for the Bundesliga side earned him a move to Italy with Atalanta. After playing 20 games during the 2023/2024 season for the club, he spent the following season out on loan back in France. Bakker joined Lille for the season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

However, on his return to Atalanta, it was clear he was not part of the clubs plans and the club and player agreed to terminate his contract.
